This little gem by Louis Lim is a an elegant and minimal wooden bench that’s also great for storage. The way the draw slides out effortlessly from either end may not impress most people, but I’m sure anyone that loves design will appreciate the functionality and aesthetics of this little beauty!

This is definitely the closest we’ve got to flying cars! The PAL-V ONE by PAL-V Europe NV is “the birth of a new class of vehicles offering unprecedented freedom, adventure, flexibility and pleasure – all in one product!”.

It can be yours for… $300,000… and you need a pilot’s license… So I doubt we will be seeing them polluting the highways & airways anytime soon. Unless gaining a pilot’s license suddenly becomes as normal as getting a drivers license in the near future. I hope so!

Toby Ng - The World of 100

Have you ever asked yourself, what would the World look like as a small community of 100 people? Probably not. However, it is something to think about, as the reality would be startling - as much as you’d think so, the village would only have 7 computers, and only 1 person in the World Village would be educated at University level.

These facts are something that designer Toby Ng has thought about very carefully, and turned the results of his findings into a series of twenty infographics depicting ‘The World of 100’. Although aesthetically beautiful, with sharp lines and bold, vibrant colours, these infographics are often horrifying.

The posters look as though they have come straight out of a children’s book; is this to mirror the naivety of those that are most likely to be looking at them on their computers?

Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson has developed ‘littlesun’, a small solar-powered lantern, in collaboration with entrepreneur Frederik Ottesen.
presented as part of the World Economic Forum, which is designed to bring forth proposals in how art can participate in creating world change,
the hand-sized device has been made to improve access to light and electricity to those living in small, rural communities in Africa
which are not built on an electric grid. the ‘little sun’ initiative provides an affordable, off-the-grid alternative to lighting for more than
2.5 million people in africa, who have an income of less than two dollars a day. Eliasson also plans to expand his research into
a few more solar products including a cell phone charger and radio.

Cloud computing and virtualization. This will be a real disruptor. And I don’t mean that running Windows on your iPad is the future. It isn’t. I’m talking about the underlying technologies and the endless possibilities they open up. Cheap, thin clients with extreme battery life and with instant access to extreme computing power. I’m not sure exactly how, but it will be huge. And as for now, OnLive seems to have taken the steering wheel.

After we attached a Bluetooth keyboard and started watching Hulu shows and playing Flash games, the iPad seemed to melt away, as we forgot the limitations of mobile browsers like the one Apple provides by default.

Since it’s OnLive we’re talking about, there are also visible compression artifacts sometimes when you scroll, and you’ll still need a decent, stable internet connection to begin with in order to use the service without stuttering and connection drops.

Philipe Starck’s city bike for Bordeux, France.

Innovative design or just a load of superficial dross? Personally, I pick the latter.

For starters, as a product designer, I don’t quite understand how a designer of Starck’s stature produces such a dull, basic render to impress his clients/public. Also, the pedals look way too inline with the seat that I can imagine it being extremely uncomfortable to ride. The foot pedal and the robust frame are the positives for me as it fits in well with public use, but apart from that, I really feel it needs a lot more work.

But, of course, I’m not Philipe Starck, and I’m sure his name alongside this bike alone will make this a success.
